Saffa.ae
The community directory and guide for South Africans in the UAE.
Why we built this
Moving to a new country is hard. Moving to the UAE as a South African is better than most — there's a huge community of 45,000+ Saffas, zero income tax, a strong job market and a relatively safe environment. But it still takes time to find your feet.
Finding the right SA-aware accountant (one who actually understands SARS obligations from abroad), a school that offers the CAPS curriculum, a decent boerewors roll on a Saturday morning, or a WhatsApp group where you can ask "which doctor for kids?" — these things took us too long to figure out.
Saffa.ae exists to compress that discovery period. A directory of SA-owned and SA-friendly businesses. Practical guides written specifically for Saffas in the UAE. A central hub for WhatsApp community groups. All in one place, all free.
What we cover
- Directory — SA-owned and SA-friendly businesses across 5 categories: Professional & Business, Home & Family, Food & Lifestyle, Services & Trades, and Community.
- Guides — In-depth practical guides written for SA expats: moving to UAE, first weeks, consulate & documents, family & schools, money & banking, work & business, and community.
- Community — 19+ SA WhatsApp groups covering every corner of expat life — jobs, families, sport, business and regional groups.
- Events — SABCO events, Braai Day, golf days and community gatherings across UAE.
Our content principles
- SA-specific facts only. Every guide includes verifiable, South-Africa-specific information. We don't pad with generic expat content.
- Community-verified. Listings are submitted by the community and checked before publishing. We flag SA-owned vs SA-friendly and verified vs. unverified.
- Free and always will be. Saffa.ae is and will remain free for users. We may offer promoted listings in the future, clearly labelled.
- Not a CRM or lead generator. We don't sell your data or contacts to anyone.
